Home away from home | Drover’s barn

Hospitality is what makes a staycation for us. We love traveling abroad so when we decide to stick around in England it has to be worth it! We recently got invited by Visit Wiltshire to stay at this gorgeous little barn in Shrewton. It’s a 3 hour drive from where we are in Hertfordshire and we managed to do the whole trip without a stop half way through which was great. Daisy slept the whole time! From the moment we arrived we absolutely loved the  overall feel of the place. It was cosy and instantly inviting. The owner’s had left us a welcoming hamper after giving us a little tour of the barn, leaving us feeling right at home. We arrived late on the Wednesday evening, popped out to Tesco and then called it a night. I have to say that the bed we slept in is by far one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had the pleasure of resting my head!

It’s situated in the beautiful little village of Shrewton, less than 10 minutes away from Stonehenge, and the perfect accommodation for visiting Wiltshire. It’s located central enough to easily access the best of Wiltshire, yet as soon as you turn the corner and head into Drover’s barn, you feel as though you’re in the middle of rural England.  Wiltshire’s most famous pre-historic sites are all within easy driving distance and on the drive through to Salisbury town you peer through the most beautifully cobbled villages – so quaint,  picturesque and traditionally English.  Exactly the kind of views that make us fall in love with our home country.

What’s to love about Drover’s Barn?

There were several particular aspects that we loved about this gorgeous little barn. The first being the location – it’s situated down a country lane with nobody but the cottage owners overlooking the property. There’s a huge 2 acre garden for children to run around and burn up some of their energy! Not to mention the three little pigs – literally. If you take a 20 second walk across the garden and over a bridge then you’ll spot the three pigs. They are so cute ( I love pigs haha) and run up to you as if they are little puppies! The two evenings we spent at Drover’s Barn were definitely my favourite. We both mentioned how we genuinely didn’t want to leave the barn at all. It was lovely to sit on (incredibly comfortable) sofa and feel really warm and cosy. I can definitely imagine it a beautiful place to spend a winter’s evening.
